By monitoring the load of the cable, we can understand the change of the load of the cable, control the overload of the cable in principle and analyze the operation status of the cable. Since overload is very harmful to the cable, the load of the cable needs to be measured and monitored frequently. The load of the cable can be measured with a clamp-on ammeter, and the cable should be kept running at the specified permissible continuous current-carrying capacity.

Main tasks of daily cable maintenance:

1.Load monitoring

By monitoring the load of the cable, we can understand the change of the load of the cable, control the overload of the cable in principle and analyze the operation status of the cable. Since overload is very harmful to the cable, the load of the cable needs to be measured and monitored frequently. The load of the cable can be measured with a clamp-on ammeter, and the cable should be kept running at the specified permissible continuous current-carrying capacity.

To prevent premature aging of the cable insulation, the line voltage should not be too high, and generally should not exceed 15% of the rated voltage of the cable.

2. Temperature monitoring

The operation of the cable will be affected by the environmental conditions and heat dissipation conditions, and there will be a local temperature rise in the early stage of cable failure, so the temperature of the cable needs to be monitored.

Using various instruments to measure the temperature of the cable line sheath, cable connectors and other components, the purpose is to prevent the cable insulation from exceeding the maximum allowable temperature and shortening the cable life, and to prevent cable accidents in advance.

The measurement of cable temperature should be carried out in summer or when the cable load is at its maximum, and the line section with the densest cable arrangement or the worst heat dissipation conditions and the greatest influence from external heat sources should be selected. When measuring the temperature of directly buried cables, the soil temperature should be measured. Measurement of soil temperature thermocouple thermometer installation point and the distance between the cable is not less than 3m.

Put into operation the new cable cold head should use infrared thermometer tracking check, power outage maintenance should be arranged to tighten its conductive connection parts; as the cable cold head connection relies on mechanical forces such as double-headed screws crimping conductive contact surface, work load current and fault short-circuit current are dependent on the crimping surface for energy transfer, thermal expansion and contraction and electromagnetic vibration may cause poor contact.

3. Prevent small animals from harming the cable

In recent years, many accidents caused by ants biting the cable may be overlooked when laying the cable. After the local residents reflect or the relevant departments report, strengthen the patrol of the cable. Especially for underground cables, conduct excavation inspection when necessary, and when more termites are found, report to the higher level and take treatment measures immediately.
